Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired??
Adrenal fatigue is a very real phenomenon in today’s society. As individuals we can become stretched beyond our capacity and this sustained stress can literally wear us down.
Signs and Symptoms of adrenal fatigue to watch out for are:
Morning tiredness
Peaks and troughs of energy throughout the day
Needing an afternoon nap
Feeling exhausted during your typical exercise regime (rather than after it)
Blood sugar irregularities (sudden hunger or dizziness)
Craving salt
Insomnia
Tired but ‘wired’
Getting sick on a holiday
Susceptible to colds and flu
Feeling exhausted after a stressful event
Adrenal fatigue is often a result of chronic stress whether physical, emotional, mental or a combination of the three. Some stress is good for us. It enables us to complete tasks with a sense of urgency, and allows us to run away from danger. Stress comes from all aspects of life i.e. work, family commitments, physical injury, financial, deadlines to meet… etc. etc. Prolonged acute stress may cause some initial disturbances such as Anxiety, Mood disturbances or Sleep issues.
Prolonged chronic stress may lead to bigger issues such as long-term depleted energy such as adrenal fatigue, because our body’s ability to adjust and deal with the stress has been compromised. This results in a ‘knock-on’ effect of ill-health such as:
Chronic tiredness
Low immune function
Insulin resistance and weight gain
Digestive disturbances
Altered thyroid function
Major hormonal disruptions – menstrual irregularities/ heightened menopausal symptoms
Insomnia
Depression
